Every now and again, a restaurant comes along that everyone starts talking about. Sometimes they begin with a hiss and a roar, only to disappear into oblivion; sometimes they just keep on getting better.
It’s been a year since popular chef Nick Honeyman and his business partner Jeffrey Costello opened Paris Butter, a French bistro on Auckland’s trendy Jervois Road. And in that time, Paris Butter has become one of the most popular eateries in town.
‘We’ve seen about 30,000 people through the door since we opened,’ says Jeffrey. ‘The first year of any business you’re working so hard, trying to tweak things to perfection. Our customers have been a big part of the journey.’
Paris Butter already has an impressive list of awards, including a ‘Best in Taste award at Taste of Auckland for the delicious Clams Escargot, and featuring in Metro’s Top 50 Best Restaurants.
The new winter menu is fantastic (duck pie, anyone?), and the traditional French staple Steak Frites is well worth the trip. Paris Butter also offers a brunch from 9am until 3pm at weekends, serving traditional French pastries, breads, homemade ‘nutella’ and jams, a selection of brunch mains – and let’s not forget drink options like Mimosas, and a bottomless glass of Laurent Perrier champagne with your tea and coffee!
Although Nick Honeyman is the famous face behind the restaurant, the chef says the restaurant’s success is a team effort. ‘We’re a really close crew of people who all share the Paris Butter vision,’ he says. ‘We know that the experience for guests starts the moment they walk through the door, and we work really hard to make sure it’s a special experience.
And the team aren’t just about making money for themselves. In March, the Paris Butter staff took part in the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trusts‘s Annual Summer Lunch Fundraiser on Waiheke, where they produced beautiful dishes for the charity event.
